This site is dedicated to promoting the playing of board games by children.

It is an independent resource to help adults find the best kids games. The kids' games featured here are primarily board games and card games. Many are the new "European-style" games, along with older types such as Monopoly.

So what are kids' games? Any game that kids like to play. They may be games that are designed and marketed specifically for children, or they may be games originally intended for adults. This definition may also include (in the case of educational games) “games that adults want kids to play which kids are glad to play.”

In other words, what games can you give to kids that will be a success, that will be enjoyed and replayed, that you will be glad you gave them?

 

The site is aimed mainly at adults (or teenagers), not necessarily at kids, since adults are usually the ones deciding what games kids will own and play. Also, unfortunately the US Congress has made it difficult with the COPPA act to have a website that allows kids to register.

The site is intended to focus on games playable by kids up to age 9. BoardGameGeek.com already does a great job of covering games for older kids. But my site is not limited to ages 9 or younger - any game may be added to the site database. What matters is that a game is playable and enjoyable for kids, regardless of the publisher's official age range for the game.

There are now over 300 games in the site database. I hope to continue adding more games, especially good games. Most of the current games were entered first because they currently have the highest ratings on BoardGameGeek, or have won major awards, appear to be popular, etc. Contact me and I will be glad to add any game for kids. I hope to soon add a feature where users can also add their favorite kids games.

I began creating this site in June 2006. I work on the site in my spare time. I intend to keep improving the site and adding new features, such as a forum, etc. If you find major bugs on the site or wish to send any other comments or feedback, please contact me.

This is a site for kids and families. I reserve the right to delete any content on the site that I judge to be offensive or not furthering the mission of the site to help adults find great kids games.

The goal of KidGameRatings.com is to be an independent source of information to consumers, to help them find the best children's games for their individual needs.

Official Site Reviews and Opinions

Rather than providing "official" opinions about games, we prefer to have site visitors give their own opinions of games. We will encourage site visitors to post their own personal opinions about games. In the future, we may also feature regular columnists or contributing reviewers, who will also publish their personal opinions.

However, if we judge a game to be especially interesting or excellent, we may highlight the game in some way.

Game Submissions from Publishers

KidGameRatings.com welcomes all submissions of game samples from publishers. Holding an actual copy of a new game certainly guarantees that we will notice it. However, we cannot guarantee that we will inspect or review all the games we receive.

Games submitted may be given away to visitors as part of site promotions. In this case, we will make an effort to prominently display the game name and its publisher for our site visitors to see.
