merkle10  For boys beginning at 8-10 (depending upon reading skill and attention span, etc), hard to pick a better one for two people that a boy will love. Whats better than army guys that you actually fight a real game with. it was my dream as a kid!! Goes quick, too (though set up can take awhile.)

THoiA10  My daughter has been successfully been playing this since she was 10. It can be easily scaled to give the youner person an advantage (give them more command cards or an extra unit or two) and throw in the historical background of every scenario and you have a great combination of a game you will enjoy playing, they will enjoy playing and possibly teach some history too!
Yollege106Yes One of my favorite games to play with my son. He does not always get the strategy, but the system tends to forgive weak play by keeping the games close. Plus he rolls like nobody's business.
akambe99Yes Memoir '44 was my introduction to hex-based wargaming. I got it for my son when he was about 10 years old, and that was old enough for this game. As a first game, some of the intructions, I felt, assumed too much knowledge of wargaming, but once we got past that, it was fun and engaging. The town, forest, and water tiles made for limitless maps, although there are plenty in the included manual, and plenty more available online. Some reviewers have complained that luck plays too great a part in this game, but for a younger age group, luck is/can be what adds a lot of excitement, whereas a strategic, methodical victory may be what quickens the pulse of adults or experienced gamers. An ultra-simplified tutorial battle would be a good addition to the user guide for beginners.
erik2point098Yes My boys loved to play this game, and I liked to play a good game and have an excuse to talk about history with them. But then we got Battlelore, which at least to them is the same thing but with magic, so this doesn't hit the table as much anymore.

jandrews910Yes This game, although not made for kids, was a big hit with my son and his friends, but not until @ 10. I think by then kids have grasped the historical significance of the war and will enjoy it. My son played this game before age 10 but would not play the Germans. ....not that he knew anything about the war, he just asked who lost the war and then he refused to play on that side. After age 10 that went away and he enjoys the entire game.
Mark99Yes Fun light WWII game for two players. A fair amount of luck - has dice of course, and also can be a little frustrating when you don't have any good cards. We often play with an extra card each.
Marky_marc910Yes Too much going on for younger kids. This is an excellent system and for such a short game has a lot of fun and strategy packed into it.
mcross98Yes Easy to learn and teaches good strategy and tactics.
prophx98Yes Great game for girls and boys. There are many options for them to think about and plan a few steps ahead. The historical aspect is a plus because past events are never studied on enough.
shawndumas98Yes Great components! Pre-teens and teens will love it. No half naked women, gore, cursing, or morbidity.
WeeSodjer9  I play this with both my ten-year-old and five-year-old sons. For the younger I only use sector cards but sometimes include a choice tactis card. I weight the scenarios by allowing them more cards but, other than that, no prisoners are taken and we all enjoy ourselves. I am the biggest kid at fifty-seven!
wkusau98Some This is a good intro to war games. It is violent but I don't find that to be a problem. The game play is easy while the strategy may be harder for young kids to see.
cindy89Yes An introductory wargame with excellent components. Great rules and plenty of variety for a child interested in games based on modern warfare.
davebo8  Good for boys (ok, I am sexist) 9 and up I would say. Great because it does not take too long to play. Only a 2-player, however.
gwen8  My 9 yo son just loves it, but he does not yet manage to play this all by himself due to the fact that the cards are language dependent. Translating the text cards to Dutch would solve this problem.
