Shade_Jon9  An excellent game for kids to learn, a classic in teaching risk and reward, planning and odds.
boltongeordie86Yes Simple rules. Stands the test of time well. Just the right length for a younger child and a good primer for other games because information is open and the basics of what makes a good or bad move are easy to demonstrate and discuss.
davebo8  Nice game because everyone knows how to play it. Good for 9yo and up, I would say.
ef88
guantanamo88Yes Classic game for the kids and family
Matt Loter85Yes Always enjoyed playing this with my grandfather as a kid.
The Unbeliever89Yes My 8 year old loves this.
wkusau88Yes The play is simple. Roll and move. The championship strategy can wait for later years.
gaharoni7  A good combination of luck and planning.
LoMa78Yes Backgammon is a great family game for 2 players IF your kids like gotcha! games and can take vast changes in luck. It is basically a gambling game based on the odds of throwing 2 dice. Good for teaching kids how to weigh tactical decisions. But the game can get boring for kids after awhile. So it gets plays in waves - very popular for awhile, then it gets put away, and after awhile, everyone wants to play it again. We play without the doubling cube.
moakm6  My 8 year old is still learning it, but he likes to play it from time to time.
pikkusiili200068Yes
slapdash610Yes I think this is a difficult game for younger kids to appreciate. However just about any kid who can count can play it. Not a strong recommendation as a kids game.
Gecko235  This might go over if it is a family/cultural thing, but around here its just a curiosity that the kids will only play if goaded into it.
shumyum5  My young son (5 yo) really likes checkers and chess so I thought he would like backgammon. Unfortunately, he has not taken to it yet. I will try again when he gets older.
