| gamesgrandpa | 10 | 6 | Yes | Our grandson learned this game by the time he was 6, by picking the tiles for the adult players and watching what they did with them. He soon recognized whether a particular tile was very useful to the player, and soon after that, he asked to join us in a game. He often wins agains 6 or 7 adults (he's 9, now), and it is one of his favorite games. We all enjoy it very much. We also like playing with a variation of the scoring rules, using the Aurochs to increase the value of deer in the same valley (found on BoardGameGeek.com). |
| luwies.mum | 10 | 7 | Yes | This is an easier version of Carcassonne for children to learn. No complicated scoring of farmers, and the animals make the theme more appealing. The end-of-game scoring process is simpler than the original Carcassonne, good for practicing math skills (adding or multiplying by 2). I also find this game more fun to play than the original. |
| Aranza | 9 | | | I checked out boardgamegeek before my last round of gift buying and this version of Carcassone was recommended over others for family play. I cannot compare it to other versions, but our family has enjoyed it a lot. The game plays well with any number of players. My 8yo daughter has been developing some strategic skills with this, and is even starting to beat me (if she could just grasp the concept of getting fields early in the game, she could take me out, Im sure.) Recommended for gaming families. |
| cindy | 9 | 9 | Yes | Enjoyable game for all. Our son loves that the gameboard expands as the game progresses and even plays with the tiles to make his own maps when not playing the game. |
| gaharoni | 9 | | | Like the original Carcassonne, this game is great for introducing kids to gaming. The rules are easy to grasp. |

| Mark | 9 | 7 | Yes | Great game, but has a little take that. |
| petegrey | 9 | | | Not only is this the best Carcassonne for kids-but an excellent gateway to the more advanced other Carcassonne games. Hunters and Gatherers is a game many adults would love playing with their kids. |
| pikkusiili2000 | 9 | 5 | Yes | Can start at a very early age with a matching excercise and then increase math skills while scoring. |

| boltongeordie | 8 | 6 | Yes | I prefer the original Carcassonne which plays slightly quicker and is (IMO) less complex. The artwork is slightly more confusing on the H&G version as well. Having said that, the whole Carc family are great for kids and perfect for allowing parents to discuss potential moves with kids, explain strategy, evaluate options. A great stepping stone in the development of the fledgeling gamer. |
| davebo | 8 | | | Fun game. I would say it is good for kids 9 and up. |
| Doomfarer | 8 | 6 | Yes | The best Carcassonne variant to play with the kids. Simple enough to understand but still challenging to play. |
| jeremycobert | 8 | | | Great game for families. The kids love the carcassone games and placing the tiles down to form a puzzle. The younger kids dont always grasp all of the scoring components, but with adult help they can just enjoy playing the game. |
| mcross | 8 | 8 | Yes | Fun pictures and easy to learn. |
| sevorges | 8 | | | I prefer this over the original Carcassonne because of the "special tiles" addition and I prefer the theme. The original is better for playing with family. |
| shawndumas | 8 | 9 | Yes | Good game for smart pre-teens and teens. No half naked women, gore, cursing, or morbidity. |
| sosullivan | 8 | | | Very good with kids - better than the original because the fields are easier to understand. You might want to play without the stone circle bonus tile, though. |
| Thies | 8 | 6 | Yes | Definitely the Carcassonne variant for introducing kids to the game system, thanks to the easily understood hunter scoring (as opposed to farmers). |
