Admiral Fisher9  My 7 year old son can sometimes beat me at this. It is a little chess-like in its play - but a lot more simple. It has a sort of zen-like quality as well, though it is best not to get too analytical about how to play it. Certainly, I have not come up with any killer strategies, yet, but I imagine it is one of those that the more you play, the better you get at seeing linked moves. The board and pieces are great too - recommended...especially if you have a child who likes games they can think about.
moakm77Yes How a child is introduced to this game and the personality of the child will have a lot to do with how much they enjoy this game. As other reviewers have stated this game is chesslike in nature but slightly simpler since there are less pieces and fewer types of moves. Though simpler than chess it still requires one to think through their moves and how their opponent will react. Kids with a reasonable attention span or those that enjoy games like chess will probably like it. Kids with a short attention span will like it less.
sheylon78Yes Oshi is certainly a nice game with a simple chess-like feel but with easy to understand pieces (move the number of spaces you have in height for the tower). My seven year old, who is learning chess in an afterschool program right now, thought it was easy enough but was bored with the idea that there was so little variety in the pieces ( Where are the knights? ) Still, a nice two-player game that can get a little long if the players chase each other around.
