| erik2point0 | 10 | 8 | Yes | The coopertion aspect of this game makes it very playable with kids, as long as they are not the traitor. This is the single most requested game at my house among those under drinking age. I think they find the theme very appealing. I think they are also hoping that maybe this time they will get to be the traitor. Not something that kids can really play by themselves without an adult. |
| Norwood | 10 | 12 | Yes | Shadows is one of my favorite all-time games. That being said, there is a lot going on in this game, and I don't think it is really that great for younger children. Sure, you can lead younger kids around and tell them what to do, but to really have them contribute they need to be able to analyze what's going on and make independent decisions that will benefit the whole group. And there's also an issue with game length for younger kids, because the game gets really good right before it ends, which may be long after a 9-year-old has already lost interest. Finally, one of the coolest things about the game is the possibility of having a traitor, and while you can play without that facet, it really adds a lot to the game. My thinking is that most 12-year-olds could handle it pretty well, and depending on how well younger kids pick up rules and are interested in the theme, you could probably push it a few years younger. |
| chance | 9 | 9 | Yes | Working together, rather than competing, makes this game great for the family. Kids love giving advice on what to do . Don't play with the traitor if everyone is below about 12 or 13, as the kids don't know how to influence well without giving away they are the traitor. |
| gaharoni | 9 | | | Lots of fun and excitement. At least for the first few games, try playing without the traitor, so the kids will focus on the mechanics of the games more than on finding the traitor, or being afraid to be found. |
| Gargle | 9 | 9 | Yes | This one depends on the kids involved. Some kids will WANT to be the bad guys. I know my husband wants to be the traitor--and some kids too. But some kids will not go for it. It may not seem like much at first, but it is great. Start playing where the first two rounds, no one looks at their loyalty cards---then, when you have the hang of it, then have people look. I suggest this b/c the first time we followed their advice to have no traitor at all...it left us rather flat. The traitor makes this game--and boys, in particular, will like it. |

| laraberrycross | 9 | 9 | Yes | The cooperative nature is great. You can add the traitor for more fun (depending on your kids). You can also tailor the difficulty level very easily. |
| mudrash | 9 | | | Kids really enjoy this one. The scoring takes a little explaining, but this has been a hit with 6th-8th grade for me. |
| prophx | 9 | 10 | Yes | Not recommended for kids under 10, but over that...watch out! They can't get enough!!! |
| gwen | 8 | | | They had to get used to the scoring system. But once they got away with that, they like playing this game very much. Total language independency is always a big plus here. |
| jcarvin | 8 | 10 | Yes | The great thing about this game is that everyone works together and so the kids can easily receive help from the adults. I'd rate this even higher except if the child is the traitor it can be more difficult for them. |
| jtyoshi14 | 8 | | | Game encourages teamwork. Really important value for kids these days. Simple mechanics and gives one player the opportunity to use trickery. Very nice recommendation. |
| Shade_Jon | 8 | | | A longish game, but with a great theme and challenging game play. A tad too hard for kids, maybe, but lovely. |
| Yollege | 8 | 7 | Yes | A family favorite. Works well because you can play without the traitor. Co-op game in general work well for kids I think. |
| Zaphod | 8 | | | The game itself is relatively simple and easily understood by kids age 10+, but the game can be long and might take some explaining. Probably best for boys over the age of 10. |
| sevorges | 7 | | | A great looking game that pushes theme to the front. Probably need to be 10 years plus and a fan of the theme to enjoy this one. |
| shawndumas | 7 | 10 | Yes | Good game for pre-teens and teens. No half naked women, gore, cursing, no morbidity. |
| tedy622 | 7 | 10 | Yes | More of a teen's game, young children will usually need some help to be able to play well. Good graphics and the cooperative aspect works well for family play. |
| The Unbeliever | 7 | 9 | Yes | A little too long. Kids don't play the traitor well, so the game looses quite a bit. |
