flowerkin9  My girls really like the game. I think about 4 is very close to a good reccomended starting age. Really depends on the child. We always seem to break this game out on game night. Although, My 5 year old always wants to play without Eric. (The robber)
dangermike82 A very simple, pure luck game that helps kids learn about following rules and procedures. I think my 4-year oldhas just about outgrown it.

pmboos8  My son loves this game. He likes to build it. It does not offer much for choices, but it does offer some. It helps kids with their counting and in taking turns. It is also fascinating in that they are building the village! The game also offers some of the negative effects games can have (i.e. the robber). The pieces are fantastic!
shawndumas84No No meaningful choices. Great components! Good kids game. Pre-teens and teens will hate it. No half naked women, gore, cursing, or morbidity.
SoLove8  Good game for very young children which teaches basic game concepts like taking turns and roll & move. There is also basic set collection to build. Wooden components are excellent and encourage freeplay for children when they dont want to play by the rules any more.
fluffdaddy7  My five year old son has loved this game for over a year - he likes the way the wheel spins and the chances he gets to build buildings. On the negative side, the game is pretty expensive (yes, good bits, but still!) and the characters have the tendency to come out of the wheel while we are playing.
Munin72Some Kids of Catan is less a game than a lesson about how to play games. It includes fantastic wooden buildings and components, but has no depth at all. Kids will learn about taking turns, rolling a die and translating the result to movement on the board, sharing (the buildings), and some sportsmanship in dealing with the robber , Eric. As such, its not much fun for parents, but its a game that nonetheless gets requested often at our house.
mi_de6  Initially quite a bit of play (at 3.5 years), now almost none. We have added a trading element as a house rule to breathe some life into it. Very prone to knocked box syndrome, when all the peices fall down. 20 minutes. Looks beautiful, and little buildings useful in play outside the game, which is not very involved.
Scammer6  My 5 year old got this for his birthday. I agree that there are not really any decisions for the players to make, but the game gets very high marks for quality. The pieces (player figures, resources and buildings) are top notch. Game play is quick and it is not any worse than any other "roll and move" game. My son likes playing with the pieces afterwards, so the game serves two purposes.
Sheylon6  My kids (7 and 5) loved this one about a year ago and it still gets regular play. The problem is - it is completely random and has no decisions other than which house to construct when you fill your cart (and, thus, it may irritate my designer game fans). The components add a lot to the proceedings but one must also be careful because there can be some disappointed kids that do not get to put city hall up.
buthrukaur5  Nice bits but not much game. It is very random and does not teach any real skill but is a nice diversion. More of a toy then a game.
gilesclone5  I so much wanted to like this. My daughter (4.5) enjoys it but still doesn-t completely understand the rules. By the time she does I-m pretty sure the thrill will be gone. She very much likes the colorful bits tho. Maybe I can invent more interesting rules?
phaedrus5
robartin53No Makes a decent toy, but the game doesn't hold my 3 year old's interest much.
goldenboat4  We really wanted to like this one but I have to say it left my kids cold.
1wif34No Fell flat for us. The kids sometimes like to play with the bits, but that's it.
wmshub34No Overpriced for the fun you get (other better games are cheaper). Boring to adults since there are no real decisions to make. Too confusing also - by the time your kid understands the game completely, they'll be too old to enjoy it.
