|Norwood||7||8||Some ||This is a pretty challenging game, even for adults. But it is also one of the best and most entertaining word games that actually works out the language center in your brain. For the more educational games, this is a fun winner.
|smithhemb||6|| || || Ok, so this really could be a game you play completely without equipment, though kids do love the device. Goal is to think of the longest word you can come up with that has the designated initial and final letter. The device deals out these letters with a satisfying ka-chunk (kind of like the sound made by the machine that makes an imprint of a credit card).
If you've got a very verbal kid who isn't reading and spelling yet (or a mix of kids, all of whom know basic phonics, but not all of whom can spell), this is one of the few decent word games out there. Can be played competitively or cooperatively. As a parent, the fun comes from thinking up (and then trying to explain) really bizarre words that will come back to haunt you in subsequent conversations.
