Mark812Yes Long game, lots of rules, but teens who like the Lord of the Rings books may enjoy it.
Merkle811Yes My son started playing this at 10 years old. It required a LONG set-up (going over rules, etc--I did not have him read all the rules in detail) and a LONG first game. But after that, he remembered the rules better than I did! And he loves it. Alot of reading required (in small print on the cards). If they've read the books (and watched the movie), this may very well hit the spot. But it could also fall incredibly flat b/c of the very complex nature of the game.
The Unbeliever813Yes For kids interested in the theme, and who enjoy long, deep games.
clandaith710Yes
sigmazero13712Yes An extremely fun and detailed game, but younger kids may be overwhelmed by the options and choices available. The two sides play very differently, and there is no generic strategy to use. Recommended for older kids and teens, but younger kids would probably not enjoy it as much. Strong reading comprehension is required for many of the Event cards, as well. (Not Tolkein level, but not grade-school level, either.)
basl614 Too long, too much?
Ed the Red513Yes A long game, which although it has plenty of options derived from the use of power cards, is actually not too complex to understand. Older Tolkien fans who are keen on a well-themed, detailed simulation will enjoy it. It falls between the wargame and eurogame camps quite neatly. Plenty of opportuities for clever play and a reasonable chance of heroic defenders holding out against vast enemy onslaughts make it quite fun and engaging.
