| Shade_Jon | 10 | 8 | Yes | I started playing with my kids when they were 8 or so, and they loved it. They played every day for years. What more can you say.
The dice rolling and trading especially appeal to them, as do the development cards and robbing. Settlers is simply a great game, and a great introductory game to more complicated games. Probably the first game you should consider from all games at this age level. |
| jim.brooks10 | 9 | 12 | Some | A great game for slightly order kids. It 's great to show kids that there's more to games than roll and move. |
| Norwood | 9 | 9 | Yes | As with most gateway games, Settlers is the perfect game for older children to transition into other modern Euro-style games. Plus, it's something that they can play for the rest of their lives and still enjoy. |

| prophx | 9 | 10 | Yes | Best gateway game for bringing older kids from roll and move type of games to more strategic/logical games. It is a game that adults will gladly play with younger and the expansions add even more fun once the base game gets old. |
| SeanXor | 9 | 10 | Yes | This is a great family game! |
| Styro | 9 | 8 | Yes | Excellent game just for the enjoyment of playing, but it has the added benefit of teaching planning, deal-making, and strategic thinking. |

| ERPriest | 8 | 8 | | A great, interactive family game. Probably best with older kids and teens as the playtime can run past two hours and the negotiation and bargaining can become a little sophisticated if played competetively. Nevertheless, there is a reason Settlers has been a classic for years and still remains the quintessential gateway game. |
| Jatoha | 8 | 10 | Yes | I think younger than 10 will find this too long. But, the older kids will enjoy the trading aspect. |

| shawndumas | 8 | 10 | Yes | Only for the smartest and most focused of pre-teens. Teens will have no trouble and are likely to enjoy. No half naked women, gore, cursing, or morbidity. |
| sigmazero13 | 8 | 9 | Yes | A trade-oriented game with some building elements. Some strategy is required, but not so much to overwhelm kids. The biggest hinderance is that trade is a large part of the game, and thus those who may not recognize the relative value of certain trades could be taken advantage of, or an obnoxious child could hinder the game (or at least himself) by refusing to trade anything but the most outrageous things. However, this can be mitigated with time, just like in any such game, and many kids will enjoy the simplicity of the game without it feeling like a baby game . |
| The Unbeliever | 8 | 8 | Yes | We play with the poor tax variant with the kids. |

| fortgary | 7 | 11 | Yes | A good game to introduce older kids to the concepts of euro-style gaming. Good and fun introduction to in-game trading and strategies of determining best pieces of land to occupy for maximum advantage. |
| Marky_marc | 7 | 7 | Yes | With some help you can have younger kids playing this one fairly easily. Good gateway game though some of the mechanics don't hold my interest after many plays. |
| musicmom | 7 | 7 | Yes | My kids like this game, but we need to dedicate several hours to it, so it doesn't get played as often. Still, when we play, they do amazingly well. The 7 yr old has even won with strategies I thought dubious. |
