| markball | 9 | 10 | Yes | Antike plays long, but rewards repeat play in that there are several paths to victory and learning them really improves ones ability and enjoyment.
Game play is very fast. A rondel determines what one can do on a turn, and the turns go by very quickly. Antike is a logistics game. War happens, but the player who plans better will win in the end.
There is one very tricky aspect to the rules. This is in conquering other players' cities. An extra movement point is needed, and the rules for eliminating forces (there are no dice in Antike) can be hard to explain.
Antike works very well for thoughtful kids who want to build an empire. Nobody will get bored as player elimination is against the rules and your turn comes back around very fast. |

| CDRodeffer | 7 | 11 | Yes | Antike is a light civilization building game with a minor war element (usually late in the game) and play governed by a "rondell" action selection mechanic. While it can take a while to play (about 2 hours might be a good guess), turns move quickly and down time is usually minimal. With coaching, kids as young as 8 years old might be able to enjoy it, but it will probably only shine with older kids and adults. It's a pleasure to play. |
| Elden | 7 | 12 | Yes | This one takes a little more geared for the older crowd. Teens will be able to catch on to what is going on and do well, but I wouldn't probably try this with a child less than 10 yrs old. |
| shawndumas | 7 | 12 | Yes | Pre-teens and teens will have little trouble and are likely to enjoy. No half naked women, gore, cursing, or morbidity. |
| Thommy8 | 6 | 13 | Some | This game might frustrate kids because it seems like it will have lots of interesting and fun combat, but its actually just a race for victory points that involves almost no fighting because attacking people yields almost no rewards and is guaranteed to hurt both players. The rondel mechanic is clever, but implemented better in Imperial, which is worth checking out instead. |
| wkusau | 6 | 12 | Yes | Kids need to be pretty sharp to play this one. The long range planning makes this more of an adult game. |
| Gecko23 | 5 | 12 | Some | This particular title seems to me to be a set of nifty mechanics that wasn't ever satisfyingly developed into an actual game. I think that a kid that is old enough to understand the rules to this game, and wants an empire building/war game experience would much rather be playing Axis&Allies or such. |
