| spearjr | 8 | 10 | Yes | The strategy can be tricky to pick up on, but the components are very nice, and the rules are simple enough that kids can get right into it. I've picked 10 as a recommended age, because of the subtle thinking required, not rules complexity. |
| Gecko23 | 7 | 8 | Yes | The kids like the bits, and the rules are simple enough to grasp right away. Strategizing comes later, and of course its very abstract, so it won't appeal if that in itself is a turnoff. |

| molnar | 7 | 8 | Yes | Started playing Zertz with my daughter when she was 8, I think. Of course, it's dad's favorite game, so the enthusiasm rubs off. This and Through the Desert were the games by which she graduated to grown-up games. But, Zertz does have a steep learning curve. I think there were times she would have rather played Tamsk - which has the funky timers and isn't as deep - but didn't want to say. |
| Yollege | 7 | 8 | Yes | Beautiful game to look at. And very simple rules, but like many abstracts, the strategy is not so obvious. My 8 yr old can play this one fine though. |
| basl | 6 | 12 | Yes | Not for kids - hard to grasp abstract and quite harsh. |
| wkusau | 6 | 8 | Yes | Challenging game. Abstracts are hard for me to rate. I like this one but generally don't think most people do. |

| laraberrycross | 3 | 9 | Some | Interesting, but not much fun. Can be very frustrating for kids when you force a move. |
