| CDRodeffer | 10 | 3 | Some | The concept is simple -- just connect your two opposite sides with a string of your stones. Some adults may think that there's not much to the game, and dismiss it as just a glorified Tic-Tac-Toe. But they would be wrong to do so! Hex is a game that will grow on you and stands up to repeated play. Do take care that the second player should be allowed to choose to play the first player's move or go ahead with the other color. This pie rule is essential in making the game balanced. Once kids have learned Hex, they will be ready for other more complex connection games from the same family, such as Y, Unlur, Havannah, Star, Onyx, Twixt, Gonnect and Jade. |
| duchamp | 8 | 6 | Yes | Classic abstract - gateway to any game where you put stones and not much more like Go - plus the connecting games like Twixt etc. I think, kids at the age of 6 should begin with a smaller board like 11x11 and later change to 14x14 up to 19x19. Easy to build by themselves, too! But it will probably not attract every kid right from the start with a lot of fun! |
