| akambe | 8 | 8 | Some | I rated this game as an 8 minimum age with a caveat: censor the cards first! Easy to play for an 8-year-old, but his/her parent really doesn't need to be put on the spot by being asked what's a sex-change? and what does 'horny' mean? I also would rather they didn't use bastard, either, or have one leather set of armor look suspiciously like a bondage/S&M outfit worn by a buxom gal. A black Sharpie and a quick edit of only 6 or 7 cards, and you're good to go with kids of many ages. Just reading through the cards is a hoot--very clever names and descriptions of characters and abilities. With armor and weapons that are easy to keep track of for your character, and with the depth of adding both race AND class to your character, it's an engaging game. Even losing a battle can be funny (like when I was stomped to death by thousands of orcs--yes, that can actually happen).
Gripe: Rules difficult for kids to slog through and try to figure out themselves--how about a simplified tutorial starter game, just to introduce some concepts? It's a LOT to tackle for kids new to this type of game. My 12-year-old got this for his birthday, and although he had two friends there for a sleep-over, they spent most of their time trying to grasp the rules, and not actually playing. I don't think they played an actual game for that entire day, although they tried. |

| ForbiddenDonuts | 7 | 10 | Yes | Great humor for a 10+ year old, particularly boys in my experience. This game does require that players be able to tolerate attacks from others (and ganging up on a leader), so if that is a challenging area for your child, this might be a more difficult game to get through. I would agree that some of the language/theme/art on the cards can be a little mature for that age range, so I would recommend that a parent carefully review the cards first and remove any of those that might be viewed as inappropriate. In my experience the problem with the mature material on the cards is more common to regular Munchkin as opposed to Star Munchkin, Munchkin Bites, etc. |

| The Unbeliever | 6 | 10 | Some | Gets old quickly. Can take forever if players don't cooperate at all. |
| justnord | 5 | 12 | Some | This game might appeal to older kids or teens interested in role playing games (D&D, etc...) but the real fun is in the inside gamer jokes on the cards. For non-gamer kids, this game would probably be a dud. The quality of cards is mediocre, and the game seems overpriced since all you're getting is a sheet of rules, a small box, and a deck of cards. You could easily find better games out there. |
