agenteasy106Yes This is a *fabulous* game for families. Players take the role of a famous pirate and compete in a race around the island of Jamaica. A very simple yet clever card system controls how fast the players move around the board. Along the way they must manage a supply of food (to eat), gold (to pay tolls) and gunpowder (to fight other pirates, yarrr!). As soon as a player makes it to the end, scores are calculated according to how far each player got, how much gold they have with them and how much treasure they have found. The production of this game is excellent. The board and cards are beautiful (seriously, take the time to look at images of the game, they really are beautiful). Everything down to the rule book and box is well produced and very thematic. Finally, the game is a lot of fun as a family game. I play currently with my 5 year old (who is a little advanced compared to his peers regarding playing games, so I listed 6 as typical). It's not too long, not too complicated, but provides adults and kids alike a really good time. I can't recommend it enough.
Yokiboy104Yes Jamaica is a fantastic family, racing game. Kids as young as four can easily play this, and kids around seven or so can play this by themselves without any supervision. It really is a great game, and the Extra Treasures supplement makes it even more fun. This is one of the best produced boardgames available, it is absolutely gorgeous! My 4-year old daughter is in love with playing a pirate captain in this game, and can stay competitive.
cdefrisco910Yes I have yet to introduce this game to anyone who didn't enjoy it. It's a light, piratey race game with fantastic art and wonderful production quality. Although there are mini-battles when two pirate ships land on the same space, they are not devastating to the loser, which is one of the reasons this works so well with kids. Although this isn't a terribly short game, there are often times when all players want to immediately play again. Without a doubt this is a sure winner with non-gamers. A great "gateway" game to bring people into the gaming hobby.
dajackel86Yes Great game with beautiful production values. There is no text which makes it fairly easy for a child to play.
fluffdaddy86Yes As mentioned by others, a great game with incredible bits and very kid friendly. Since there is no text, reading is not essential. One note: a child must be able to do some basic spatial reasoning in order to play well.
